Savasana is one pose that everyone who doesn’t do yoga thinks is easy.  Who couldn’t just lie there?

This simple-sounding pose is more difficult than you might realize. The body and mind can cause distractions that make it a challenge.  For example, your body might feel cold, itchy, or unsettled and your mind might wander and think about all the things you need to do when you’re through with your yoga practice.

It’s normal for the mind to try to resist this deep relaxation. Savasana is the ultimate act of conscious surrender. It takes practice and patience to surrender easily. But oh are the rewards worth it! A quiet, centered rider will quiet the horse.

Why practice Savasana?

According to Yoga Journal,  Savasana helps relieve mild depression, high blood pressure, headaches, fatigue, and insomnia.   Savasana can calm the nervous system and allow fatigued muscles to relax, tense shoulders and jaws soften, and the eyes quiet down to reflect a quieter state of mind.  A quiet, relaxed rider will result in a quiet, relaxed horse.
